STAFFER INVOLVEMENT

In my first year on the Prospector, I realized that the staffers in our publication didn’t have many opportunities to be involved with social media reporting, as caption reporting was always done by the social media manager. So, I decided to implement new system so that our staffers could try reporting.

initiative #4:
staffer involvement

When I became social media manager, I implemented an accessible social media spreadsheet on our shared publication drive for our staffers to have a more readily available way to sign up to cover events. This spreadsheet consisted of an event calendar with an overview of events occurring on campus or in our community, a sheet for event details and sign-ups, a post to-do list for the social media managers to keep track of what events needed to be posted and a photo request form for page editors to request photos for their spreads.

This is our social media master spreadsheet, consisting of all four sheets that are accessible to staffers. Click to enlarge and hover for descriptions!

Additionally, the social media managers would communicate to all the staffers about an event if there were no initial sign-ups through our publication Discord server, where all announcements are made.

These are some announcements regarding different events that I've made to our staffers on our Prospector Discord server.

Staffers who reported on events or students featured in that coverage often reposted the event coverage to their Instagram stories, reaching larger audiences. This increased unity among our staffers, who grew to identify further with their role on The Prospector’s staff, and student groups on campus as our publication recognized them.
